A Profile of Fire in the US: 1995-2004

A 2008 Government document (HS 5.219: 1995-2004) provides some interesting statistics about fires in the United States from 1995-2004. Click on the blue title above to read article. One of the more interesting facts is that the highest number of fire deaths occur in a line of southern states: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississppi, Tennessee, and West Virginia (see map above.) Another interesting fact is that the number of men who perish in fires is double that of women. Cooking fires are also the main cause of fires in the United States. So be careful while cooking during this holiday season - and make sure you have fresh batteries in your smoke detectors.

Afternoon Power Outage

The city of Weatherford experienced a major power outage around 2:15pm today. Power has been restored to the library and campus but accessibility to the library's catalog, databases, website and the university's website is spotty at best. Please be patient as these systems return to normal functionality.
