Celebrate National Poetry Month!

In April 2021, the Academy of American Poets celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the annual celebration of National Poetry Month.  Launched in 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters.  Over the years, National Poetry Month has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with many readers, students, teachers, librarians, booksellers, publishers, families, and poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives.

Poetry is a form of literature that uses aesthetic and often rhythmic qualities of language to evoke an imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response through language.  There are over fifty different types of poetry, including the most popular ones of haiku, free verse, sonnets, and acrostic.

Come help us celebrate National Poetry Month by checking out the display of the works of many poets at the Al Harris Library!
