Verizon Wireless gets Rhapsody music subscriptions


Cell phones are becoming more useful devices for listening to music. Verizon Wireless is introducing Rhapsody's subscription music service Monday, allowing its customers to download as much music as they want to their phones for $15 per month.

Roman Art from the Louvre

The Louvre museum (Paris) has an extensive collection of art from just about every part of the ancient world. A selection of their Roman art collection has been loaned to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (June 19 to October 12, 2008.) According to the museum literature: "there are a variety of monumental sculptures, sarcophagi, marble busts and reliefs, bronze and terracotta statuettes and implements, jewelry, glass and metal cups and vessels, mosaics, fresco paintings and a cache of more than one hundred major silver pieces from Pompeii."

This is the final U.S. venue before it all goes back to France. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and admission is free for ages 5 and under. The Oklahoma City Art Museum is located at 415 Couch Drive in downtown. (405-236-3100, ext 237). Hours are: Tues-Sat 10-5, Thurs 10-9 pm, Sun Noon-5, Monday closed.

Writing Center: Summer Hours

The Writing Center is open this summer: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays;
10:00-12:00 a.m. Thursdays.
When the tutor is available, we may be open some Tuesday evenings as well.

Students may call 774-7083 to check the availability of the tutor.

New database at Al Harris library

New: North American Indian Thought and Culture
North American Indian Thought and Culture is now available on the Social Sciences page and the Databases A-Z list.NAITC integrates writings, images, and oral histories to cover the entire history of North America; from 17th century accounts of the first encounters involving Indians and European colonists to the stories of aboriginals living in a 21st century world. The database is dedicated to telling the life stories of both the well-known historical figures such as Pocahontas and Sitting Bull, and also the lesser-known men and women whose day-to-day experiences give an equally valuable portrayal of Indian culture.Detailed information about NAITC is available on the publisher's web site.

Due to approaching storms that could possibly contain hail and very high winds, SWOSU is closing offices on Thursday, June 5 at 4:30pm. To comply with the university mandate, the Al Harris Library will close at 4:30pm instead of our regular time of 9:00pm.
